Feeding New York’s Dairy Farms with Lutz Feed
In the quiet hills of Oneonta, New York, where barns dot the landscape and cows graze under open skies, a heartbeat of agriculture pulses from a place that has spent generations helping fuel it: Lutz Feed Company. Tucked inside what used to be an abandoned factory, now transformed into a thriving feed mill, Lutz Feed isn’t just about delivering bags of grain—it’s about nurturing farms, families, and futures.
A Legacy Rooted in Resilience
The story begins in 1958, when Blake Lutz’s grandparents laid the foundation of what would become a multi-generational business. Originally located in Roxbury, New York, the company made a pivotal move in the mid-1970s to Inana, breathing new life into an old building and forging roots that still hold strong today.
Today, Lutz Feed serves the livestock industry with a wide range of feed products—meal feeds, pellets, bagged feeds, and custom blends—all tailored to meet the specific nutritional needs of each farm and each cow. With a fleet of 12 to 14 delivery trucks running daily, the operation is in constant motion.
Meet Blake: General Manager, Steward of Tradition
Blake Lutz, grandson of the original founders, now serves as General Manager, Secretary-Treasurer, and self-described "jack of all trades, master of none." His role is as dynamic as the agricultural landscape he operates in. From overseeing commodity pricing and feedstuff securement to jumping in when a truck breaks down or a machine goes offline, Blake is deeply embedded in the daily rhythm of the mill.
What keeps him grounded? Pride and purpose. "There's a lot of pride in being the third generation involved in the business," Blake says. With 17 years under his belt at Lutz Feed, he's seen the evolution firsthand and remains driven by the tangible results of hard work. "It’s really rewarding to see what we’ve accomplished."
Meet Sean: Nutrition Consultant with a Passion for Cows
If Blake is the backbone of Lutz Feed’s operations, Sean Dieumegard is the connective tissue between the mill and the farms it serves. As a Dairy Nutrition Consultant, Sean spends his days walking barns, analyzing herd data, and customizing feed plans with precision. He doesn’t just build diets—he builds trust with farmers.
Sean’s journey into agriculture started early. Summers spent in Delaware County showing heifers at county fairs sparked a love for dairy that led him to SUNY Cobleskill, where he earned a degree in animal science. “I wanted to be in the barn, with cows, talking to people,” Sean shares. That clarity of purpose hasn’t wavered.
Now, he works both with in-house and independent nutritionists to create feed formulations that are customized for each herd’s needs. “Every diet’s different. No diet’s the same,” he explains. “It’s all tailored to keep her healthy and firing on all cylinders.”
A Shared Mission
Together, Blake and Sean represent two vital sides of Lutz Feed: heritage and innovation, logistics and science, family and fieldwork. What unites them is a deep commitment to New York’s dairy community—delivering more than just feed, but also support, insight, and care.
As they both proudly say, “I am New York Dairy.”
